Peter Song (1821-1867)
Peter Song was born in Seochon, Chungju, Chungcheong-do to a noble family. He learned the catechism when he was a young boy. As an adult, he took good care of his father Benedict and his family.
Peter Song`s family moved to the Baeti Christian Village in Jincheon (now, Yangbaek-ri, Baekgok-myeon, Jincheon-gun, Chungbuk), in search of greater religious freedom. He enjoyed a peaceful Christian life with fellow believers. In the spring of 1867, one year after the Byeongin Persecution broke out, the police from Seoul, who were searching for Catholics, raided the Baeti Christian Village and arrested Peter Song, his father Benedict Song and other family members.
They were taken to the government office in Jincheon and then transferred to Seoul by way of Juksan, Gyeonggi-do. Five family members were arrested including Peter Song, his father Benedict Song, Peter`s daughter, Peter`s daughter-in-law Anna Yi and her child.
They were martyred in Seoul in 1867 after professing their faith in God. Peter Song was 46 years old.
